Yankees' Chisholm debunks AirPods myth after head shot

New York Yankees second baseman Jazz Chisholm Jr. addressed viral photos suggesting he wore an AirPod while playing in the field. The 28-year-old explained the object was cotton stuffed in his ear to ease an earache from a ground ball that struck his head during the team's win over the Texas Rangers on Monday. Chisholm took the grounder to his right ear after it skipped off his glove.

Chisholm told The Athletic the impact caused ringing in his ear for three days and an earache that lasted three or four days. He wore actual AirPods in the clubhouse with noise-cancellation activated to block sounds but has missed no games. On Instagram Story, he displayed the cotton and captioned it, "All y’all just ain’t the smartest," adding a shrug and laughing emoji.

Chisholm dismissed online speculation as "not smart," noting no umpire or coach would permit electronics on the field. He enters the season with a .205 batting average, three home runs, 10 RBI and nine stolen bases, showing signs of improvement after a slow start.

Chisholm reported feeling better and unaffected by the injury during play.
