Wilson Says Playoff Berth Is Realistic Goal For Jets
Garrett Wilson says the Jets should not view a playoff appearance this season as a stretch goal but as the standard by which the team's success is measured. "[Making the playoffs is] very realistic," the wide receiver said, according to ESPN. "I think it should happen. I'll say that. It's our job to go play ball and do it, but that's how I feel about it."
New York is coming off a 3-14 season and has not posted a winning record since 2015. The franchise's postseason drought dates to 2010, the longest active stretch without a playoff appearance in professional American sports. Head coach Aaron Glenn has overhauled his staff entering his second season, parting ways with offensive coordinator Tanner Engstrand after 2025 and moving on from defensive coordinator Steve Wilks in December. Frank Reich, previously a head coach with the Indianapolis Colts and Carolina Panthers and most recently at Stanford, takes over as offensive coordinator. The Jets reshaped their roster on both sides of the ball. Offensively, they reacquired quarterback Geno Smith from the Las Vegas Raiders - he began his career in New York from 2013-16 - signed guard Dylan Parham to a two-year, $16 million deal, and used draft picks on Oregon tight end Kenyon Sadiq (No. 16) and, via trade-up, Indiana wide receiver Omar Cooper (No. 30). Defensively, New York drafted Texas Tech edge rusher David Bailey with the No. 2 overall pick, traded for safety Minkah Fitzpatrick from Miami, and added linebacker Demario Davis, who also returns to the franchise after previous stints from 2012-15 and in 2017, on a two-year, $22 million contract. The Jets further bolstered the front and secondary with cornerback Nahshon Wright and defensive linemen Joseph Ossai, David Onyemata and Kingsley Enagbare.
Wilson, the No. 10 overall pick out of Ohio State in 2022 and signee of a four-year, $130 million extension last July, played just seven games in 2025 because of a knee injury, finishing with 36 catches for 395 yards and four touchdowns. In his first three seasons, he averaged 93 receptions, 1,083 yards and 4.7 touchdowns annually without missing a game. "Something is going to happen this year. I'm a faithful guy, and I believe that," Wilson said, adding that the team's long struggles "weigh" on players who have spent years with the franchise. "With the work we've been putting in, we have as good an opportunity as anybody in the league. I'm excited, man. We have a hell of a group here."
New York opens its 2026 season on the road against the Tennessee Titans, now coached by Robert Saleh, who led the Jets from 2021-24.
