DeChambeau rebuffs 3D-printed iron question after Masters 76

Bryson DeChambeau shot 4-over 76 in Thursday's first round of the Masters at Augusta National. The two-time U.S. Open champion hit a patron with his tee shot on the sixth hole and took three bunker shots on the 11th. In his post-round interview, he brushed off a question about producing another 3D-printed 5-iron.

DeChambeau, who built the club himself, described the manufacturing process as a day-and-a-half endeavor that requires United States Golf Association conformance. "Pfft, no. It has to be USGA-conforming. There's a whole process you have to go through," he said. He added to ESPN that innovation remains a habit for him, even through failures.

DeChambeau entered the tournament with the second-best odds to win, behind only Scottie Scheffler. Last year, he played the final round alongside Rory McIlroy, the eventual champion; the pair also closed the previous U.S. Open, which DeChambeau captured.

DeChambeau used the 5-iron only once Thursday. His score left him at risk of missing the cut.
